When asked to create a new dining space by taking out a wall between two smaller rooms, Biobuild found the Kauri boards behind the plasterboard, and brought it back to life. By carefully removing, cleaning, shaping, sanding, fixing and oiling the centuries old timber, a beautiful finish was achieved. Features of the Kauri’s life before felling, from grain to knots, are celebrated and revealed.
Rejuvenation, character, warmth
Now three generations can gather around the table and share their lives, food and drink, in the home that they grew up in. Instead of covering up this room’s past, we reveal it to the occupants, inviting them to create new stories and memories in the space.
